Bangladesh's medal hope in the 16th Asian Games Men's Kabbadi was shattered as they conceded a humiliating 15-36 points defeat against Pakistan in the 3rd round match at the Nansha Gymnasium in Guangzhou, China Wednesday, reports UNB.
Pakistan, which earned six creditable lonas, clearly dominated the first half by 26-10 points.
This is for the first time that Bangladesh failed to earn any medal in the Asian Games men's kabaddi since its inclusion in the Asiad in 1990. Previously, Bangladesh earned three silver and two bronze medals in men's kabaddi in the continental games.
Earlier, the semifinal hope of Bangladesh men's kabaddi team became uncertain as they conceded a 13-15 points defeat against Japan in the first match, but they came back in the race beating Malaysia by 48-38 points in the 2nd match.
With the day's well-merited victory over Bangladesh, Pakistan moved into the last four to play the first semifinal against Iran Thursday morning while holders India will face Japan in the other semis, also Thursday morning.
However, Bangladesh Women's Kabaddi team, in their first appearance in the Asian Games, confirmed at least a bronze medal, as they reached the semifinal beating Korea by 28-19 points. As per game rules, both the semifinalists will get a bronze medal.
This will be the 2nd medal for Bangladesh in the ongoing Asian Games after the Bangladesh women's cricket team won a silver medal.
Bangladesh women's kabaddi team, which got walkover against Nepal, will play Thailand in the first semifinal on Thursday afternoon hoping to win a silver medal while India will meet Iran in the other semifinal on the same day.
