Bangladesh made their early exit from the 2nd round of the eight-nation Hockey World League losing to Oman by 0-2 goals in penalty shoot-out as the 3rd quarterfinal match between them was locked in 3-3 goals in the stipulated time in Singapore Thursday, reports UNB.
In the day's other quarterfinals, Pool-B champion Poland beat Singapore by 8-0 goals, Pool A champion Malaysia outplayed Mexico 10-1 goals while the 2nd finisher of Pool-B Japan defeated Ukraine by 5-0 goals.
Bangladesh will now play Singapore while Mexico to face Ukraine on Friday in the 5th to 8th place deciding classification matches.
Malaysia will meet Japan while Poland to play Oman in the semifinals tomorrow (Saturday).
In the day's 3rd quarterfinals, Farhad Ahmed Shetul, Pushkar Khisha Mimo and Hasan Jubair Niloy scored one each for 30th ranked Bangladesh while Mohammad Jandal Batt, Anwar Saad Jumaan and Muhanna Al Hasani scored for 22nd ranked Oman in the regulation 60 minute.
Farhad Ahmed Shetul put Bangladesh ahead in the very 4th minute from a penalty corner (1-0) while Mohammad Jandal Batt restored the parity for Oman in the 12th minute, also from a penalty corner (1-1)
Anwar Saad Jumaan scored the 2nd goal for Oman in the 28th minute also from a penalty corner (2-1) while Pushkar Khisha Mimo leveled the margin for Bangladesh just after two minutes from another penalty corner (2-2) to settled for 2-2 draw in the first half.
In the 2nd half, Hasan Jubair Niloy again put Bangladesh ahead in the 49th minute by a field goal (3-2) while Muhanna Al Hasani neutralized the margin again in the 57th minute by a field goal (3-3) to force the match toward penalty shoot-out.
In the penalty shoot-out, Rassel Mahmud Jimi, Hasan Jubair Niloy, Roman Sarkar and Sarwar Hossain of Bangladesh failed to score any in four consecutive attempts while Khalid Al Shaaibi and Muhanna Al Hasani scored one each for Oman while Bangladesh custodian Asim Gope saved the attempts of Qasim Al Shibli and Ahmed Al Balushi.
Earlier, Bangladesh moved to quarterfinal from Pool-B as the 3rd finisher securing three points from three matches after beating all-losers Mexico by 6-1 and lost to Japan 1-5 and lost to Poland by 0-5 goals while Oman finished 2nd from Pool-A bagging six points with two wins and losses.
