The second Test between Bangladesh and South Africa ended in a draw as the match has been called off early on the fifth day due to wet outfield, after three successive washed-out days by rain, at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Monday, reports UNB.
The two-match Test series finished fruitless 0-0 as the first match also ended in a draw in Chittagong, but Bangladesh gained six points for their plucky performance in both the matches. They raised their Test rating points tally to 47 from 41.
Bangladesh were at stumps 246 for 8 in 88.1 overs with Nasir Hossain unbeaten on 13 at the wicket in the first innings of the second Test on day one.
South African bowler Dale Willem Steyn enjoyed most of his success in the second Test as he joined a selected group of bowlers to claim 400 wickets. He grabbed the wicket of Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal on day one and became the second South African in the 400-wicket-club after Shaun Pollock who took 421 wickets in his career, and the 13th overall.
Including his six wickets in the two-match Tests, Steyn bagged 402 wickets from 80 matches with best 7 for 51. In Chittagong Test, Bangladesh scored 326 runs in the first innings replying the Proteas 248 runs. South Africa opened the second innings on day 3 and scored 61 for no loss in 21.1 overs, before the rain halted the match.
The insistent rain forced to call off six days play in the series without a ball being bowled, including the last two days of Chittagong Test.
With this series result, a win in the Test format remains untouched for the ninth ranked Bangladesh against the number one South Africa among their 10 Test tussles, but the home side achieved a 2-1 historic success in the ODI series, following a 2-0 loss in the T20I series in the tour.
The Tigers crushed South Africa by 9-wicket in the 3rd ODI at the ZACS in Chittagong on July 15, following a 7-wicket win in the second match at the SBNCS on July 12 to seal the first ever ODI series victory against the Proteas in their full-fledged month-long National Polymer Cricket Series.
Bangladesh bounced back in the three-match ODI series after conceding a humiliating 8-wicket defeat in the first match at the SBNCS on July 10.
Bangladesh maintained their number 7 place in the ICC ODI rankings with 96 points by virtue of the three-match ODI series win against the visitors.
