Bangladesh thrash Nepal 24-0 in SAG hockey

Bangladesh hockey team vent all their frustration with a blazing performance at the turf of the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium by recording their biggest international victory with an outstanding 24-0 thrashing of Nepal in the city Wednesday, reports BSS.
In the other match of the day, India trounced arch rivals Pakistan 5-1 to seal their final berth.
Bangladesh attacked Nepal from the outset of the match and was leading 10-0 before interval.
Penalty corner specialist Mamunur Rahman Chayan scored nine goals, ace attacker Rasel Mahmud Jimmy hit the back of the net six times, forward Kamruzzaman and winger Zahidul Islam scored a brace each and midfielders Nannu and Pushkor Khisha netted apiece to create the history.
Bangladesh defeated Nepal 11-0 in the 1995 edition of SA Games at Madras and before today's feat it stood as the victory of highest margin of Bangladesh in the international hockey arena.
Bangladesh enjoyed a complete dominance as the Nepalese players who conceded 21-0 and 19-0 losses against India and Pakistan earlier had no clue to the all out attacking approach of their opponents.
Chayan, who produced a disappointing show against Pakistan failing to convert any of the seven penalty corners against Pakistan demonstrated his fine form to demolish Nepal and provide the team a much needed motivation ahead of the crucial tie against India on Friday.
Jimmy, arguably the best hockey player of the country, was also in a fine form as relished his play making role and marked his presence in almost every inch of the turf.
He came forward initiating a good number of counter attacks, was in the right positions to flick in a number of goals and pushed the penalty corners accurately.
Nepal provided very little resistance throughout the match.
In the second match of the day, India produced an electric performance to rout arch rivals Pakistan on their way to register the third consecutive victory that ensured them a place in the final.
India produced a blitzkrieg in the two opening minutes scoring two goals before a number of Pakistani players had touched the ball to take the driver's seat and maintained the supremacy.
Pakistan tried hard to return to the game but the technically accurate Indian defence and custodian Mrinal stood solid against the Pakistani aspirations.
Raghunath slammed a hat-trick to start the Indian camp's celebrations.
Dharamv the wily attacker of India flicked a hit past Pakistan custodian Imran Butt in the very first minute and followed suit again in the very next minute with a fine touch of finishing off fierce minus of Raghunath.
Pakistan overwhelmed by the occasion conceded the third in the 14th minute as drag and flick specialist Raghunath put the ball into the roof of the net and repeated the act five minutes later to seal the fate of the match.
Kashif Javed reduced the margin for Pakistan off a penalty corner in the 28th minute but India's 4-1 cushion during the interval was unbreakable.
After the change of ends Pakistan tried their hearts out but failed to score any goals while Raghunath completed his treble in the 57th minute proving his penalty corner prowess.
Bangladesh meet India on the last day of the group matches on Friday while Pakistan take on Sri Lanka also on Friday.
