Bangladesh to adopt rotation policy after T20 World Cup

June 28, 2021 00:00:00

Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hassan revealed the team will adopt rotation policy after the T20 World Cup later this year. The players have been raising their voices regarding the rotation policy and are citing bio-bubble fatigue with time spent away from families also taking toll, reports Cricbuzz.

Nazmul stressed the board will have to find a way to implement the rotation policy and even find separate teams. They are, however, handicapped at this point with Pakistan set to tour in November-December for two Tests and three T20Is. Bangladesh will then travel to New Zealand to play the same number of matches as the Pakistan series.

"We will start rotation policy after the ICC World T20,'' BCB chief said. "I think we cannot do it now, but if we want to compete in the big league, there is no option other than having different teams for different formats.

"The Test and ODI squads cannot be the same. The big teams have separate teams, so they don't have any problem as they can give rest to a lot of cricketers, but in our case, some of the cricketers play all the formats.

"But I think after the T20 World Cup, we have to go for separate teams because we don't have any other option. Pakistan will come to play after the World Cup while we are expected to go to New Zealand at that point. So naturally, we will need two teams because there is quarantine issue and players need to go there early."

Nazmul Hasan added that the upcoming AGM of the board is likely to be postponed due to the countrywide hard lockdown. BCB are scheduled to meet for the AGM on July 7. Nazmul's second term is set to end in September this year and according to the constitution, the board must arrange the election within the next 45 days.

"We will decide regarding the AGM after seeing one week," Nazmul said. "It's difficult to say whether we can host it on time because if the shutdown is extended, we will have to reschedule the AGM."
