Bangladesh to take part in CYG in Pune

Eight Bangladeshi athletes for the 3rd Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG) have been selected while the Bangladesh Shooting Federation choose its two competitors Saturday, reports UNB.
They are swimmer Anik Islam (200m butterfly), swimmer Afsana Talukdar (100m & 200m freestyle), shooter Sabbir Hasan (Skeet & 10m air rifles), shooter Tripti Datta (50m rifle prone & 50 rifle 3 position), weightlifters Fayema Akhter (50kg) and Mizanur Rahman (56kg), boxers Riad Hossain (48 kg light fly weight) and Mosihur Rahman Kajal (51kg fly light weight).
The third edition of the meet will be hosted by Pune, a city in the Indian state of Maharashtra, from October 12 to 18 with some 13,000 competitors from 71 nations participating in the meet.
It is for the first time that Bangladesh, are set to participate in the CYG, that started its journey in 2000 in Scotland. The last edition of the meet was held in Australia in 2004.
Eight Bangladeshi competitors -- two each for swimming, shooting, weightlifting and boxing -- will vie for medals at the meet, that also hosts five other disciplines of athletics, badminton, wrestling, table tennis and tennis with some 13,000 athletes competing.
An 11-member Bangladesh contingent, headed by Bangladesh Olympic Association Deputy General Secretary Anisur Rahman Dipu, is likely to leave here for India on October 10, BOA Chief Executive Officer retired Col Wali Ullah told the news agency Saturday.
Apart from eight participants, two officials -- Amjad Hossain and Kajal Datta -- will accompany the athletes as coaches-cum-managers.
The notable feature of the meet is that the competition venues of all sports events and the Athletes Village are located in one single complex adjacent to the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Stadium, according to the official website of the Games.
