In a riveting clash at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Fortune Barishal secured a nail-biting victory over Rangpur Riders, winning by 5 wickets with just 5 balls to spare in the third match of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024, report agencies.
Rangpur Riders, batting first, faced early setbacks as they posted a challenging yet precarious total of 134/9 in their allotted 20 overs. Shamim Hossain's resilient 34 and contributions from other middle-order batsmen anchored their innings.
Captain Tamim Iqbal, who returned to competitive cricket after recovering from the back injury, gave the early impetus with team high 35 off 24, laced with five fours and one six.
Tamim's whirlwind batting ensured Barishal would have edge in terms of asking run rate in chasing a small but tricky target.
Amid Tamim's fluent batting, Shakib Al Hasan broke through with the wicket of Ibrahim Zadran after he made 12.
Khaled Ahmed shone with the ball, claiming a remarkable 4 wickets for Fortune Barishal. Mehidy Hasan Miraz took two wickets for them.
In response, Fortune Barishal faced hiccups, but skillful contributions from Tamim Iqbal (35), Mushfiqur Rahim (26), and a composed innings by Shoaib Malik (17*), guided them to victory. Mahmudullah Riayd's quick 19 off 11 balls was also important for them.
