After the withdrawal of candidature by all the three short-listed coaches, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is looking for appointing a coach for the national cricket team by October 30, reports UNB.
The decision was taken at a BCB ad-hoc executive committee meeting at the board's Navana Tower office in Gulshan Sunday afternoon with its president Major General Sina Ibn Jamali in the chair.
After the meeting, BCB member and the vice-president of the Media and Communications Committee Ishtiaque Ahmed said they are very much hopeful of appointing the national coach by the end of October and have already started contacts with a couple of coaches.
"We've communicated with former Lankan coach John Dyson from Australia, now in Canada on holidays. We've decided to invite him for his presentation within a few days."
The coach appointment process got stalled following the withdrawal of candidature by the three short-listed coaches -- Jamie Siddons and John Harmer of Australia, and Zimbabwean Dave Houghton.
The meeting also decided to start the ensuing National Cricket League after Eid. The tournament committee earlier announced an expected date to launch the league on October 5.
"The official of Divisional teams praised the tournament committee chairman's decision to defer the league as the participating teams are yet to start their preparations for the league. And there is a question of Eid."
Ishtiaque said they discussed the relegation matches of the Premier Division Cricket League 2006-07 scheduled to begin on October 4.
Three participating teams of the relegation league -- Brothers Union Club, City Club and Indira Road KC-- have showed their unwillingness to play the relegation league for their various problems, including financial crisis.
Under the circumstances, the CCDM will sit with the club representatives today (Monday) for proper holding of the relegation league.
He said the BCB is also going to sign an MoU with the National Sports Council (NSC) to get the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium and Chittagong Divisional Stadium on a long-term lease.
