Walton Central Zone were inches away from winning against Prime Bank South Zone while the match between BCB North Zone and Islami Bank East Zone, as expected, saw a stalemate on the last day of the inaugural franchise-based four-dayer Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) Sunday, reports UNB.
Prime Bank South Zone vs Walton Central Zone:
At the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS), with the sharp bowling of slow-left-arm Mosharraf Hossain and pacer Shahadat Hossain, Central Zone bowled out South Zone for 216 (overnight 31 for 1 in 5.1 overs) in the 2nd innings to set a paltry target of 127 on the 4th day.
Mosharraf finished with figures of 30-6-68-4 while Shahadat took three wickets for 72 runs in the 2nd innings of South Zone that saw some fight being put forth by number six batsman Tusher Imran (65) and tail-ender Rubel Hossain (44) after opener Fazle Mahmud, the third highest scorer, got out on 26.
Tusher Imran hit seven fours to score 65 in his 168-ball innings while Rubel Hossain consumed 113 balls for his 44 runs that included five fours.
All the batsmen starting from opener Imrul Kayes (12), Enamul Haque Bijoy (8), Mithun Ali (19), Soumya Sarker (15) to 1st innings' show stopper Ziaur Rahman (5) failed before Central Zone reeled in the 127-run chase losing first four wickets with just 3 runs on the board owing to pacer Robiul Islam's terrifying charge for a hat-trick in the very first over.
Robiul Islam scattered the stumps of Mohammad Ashraful (0), Marshall Ayub (0) and Mehrab Hossain Jr (0) in the last three balls after trapping opener Asif Ahmed (2) for a leg before dismissal.
In fact, Central Zone's first five wickets fell for 18 runs when Mosharraf Hossain (number six batsman) and skipper Mahmudullah Riyad (number seven batsman) ironically came to the rescue with a 51-run partnership playing 107 balls in the 6th wicket.
Mosharraf scored 16 runs off 61 balls with only one four while Mahmudullah hit his 19th first class fifty remaining not out on 50 off 83 balls with three fours and a six. After Mosharraf's departure, Nurul Hasan stuck to the crease with his skipper scoring 11 off 18 with a boundary.
South Zone seamer Robiul Islam finished with figures of 6-1-17-5 on way to his 8th five-wicket haul in a 53-match first class career.
BCB North Zone vs Islami Bank East Zone:
At Shaheed Chandu Stadium (SCS) in Bogra, foggy conditions reduced the 4th day's play to 67 overs when Islami Bank East Zone scored 419 for 8 in 113 overs (143 for 4) at stumps after BCB North Zone declared their 1st innings at 499 for 6 at the start of 3rd day's play.
