A 23-member Bangladesh contingent will leave the capital for Nanjing early tomorrow (Friday) to participate in the 2nd Summer Youth Olympics Games, reports UNB.
The Chinese city hosts the competition Aug. 16-28.
Bangladesh expressed the hope to do well in shooting, Archery and hockey.
Vice President of Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) Rafia Akhter Dolly is chef de mission of Bangladesh contingent comprising 13 athletes, five team officials and five contingent officials.
Captain of Bangladesh youth hockey team Rezaul Karim Babu will carry the national flag in the Youth Olympics to be participated by some 3,600 athletes from 204 countries of the world.
Out of 28 disciplines of sports in the Youth Olympics, Bangladesh will compete in five disciplines-Shooting, Swimming, Archery, Hockey and Weightlifting.
Addressing a press conference here last Monday, BOA secretary general Syed Shahed Reza expected good results from shooting and archery as the shooters and archers have received special training since last January under foreign coaches. "Now the time has come to produce good results," he said.
"Apart from shooting and archery, we have a hope in hockey team, who qualified directly for the Games five-a-side hockey from preliminary round."
Besides, hockey team, Bangladesh is participating in four other disciplines of sports through wild cards.
Bangladesh put in Pool A of the Youth Olympics Hockey with Australia, Canada, South Africa and Spain while Pool B team comprises Germany, Mexico, New Zealand, Pakistan and Zambia.
In Pool A matches, Bangladesh will play Spain on Aug 17, Australia on Aug 18, Canada on Aug 19 and South Africa on Aug 20.
Bangladesh contingent: Shooting - Sharmin Akhter (10m air rifle), team official - Abdus Salam Khan; Swimming - M Asif Reza (50m freestyle), team official - Jatindra Nath Biswas,; Archery - Prennoy Murong (individual recurve bow), team official - Myunkwon Park.
Weightlifting - Zohura Akhter Reshma (48kg), team official - Mrs Shahriar Sultana.
Hockey Team - Rezaul Karim Babu, M Raju Ahmed, M Fazle Hosain Rabbi, Sajubur Rahman, Khalid Mahmud Rakin, M Naimuddin, Deen Islam Emon, M Ashraful Islam, and M.Roman Sarkar; Officials - Khawja Rahmatullah and M Kawser Ali.
