BD emerge group champions, Singapore runners-up

Hosts Bangladesh emerged Group B champions with all-win run while Singapore finished runners-up in the Islami Bank Asian Games Hockey Qualifiers winning their last group matches at the Maulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium in the city Thursday, reports UNB.
Singapore notched a comfortable 6-1 victory over Hong Kong in the day' s first match while Bangladesh beat Iran 3-1 in the day's 2nd and last group encounter in the afternoon.
Bangladesh, which clinched the Group B crown securing full nine points from straight three group engagements, will play Group A runners-up Sri Lanka while Group A champions Oman will face Group B runners-up Singapore in the semifinals, both on Saturday.
In the day's 2nd match, Iran created strong pressure over Bangladesh from the very beginning and managed three penalty corners within six minutes, but failed to convert any.
Bangladesh managed the first chance in the 11th minute but Iranian goalie Cha Chazanisharah made a brilliant save to foil the attempt of Bangladesh forward Pushkor Khisha Mimo.
Iran took the lead in the 26th minute as a fierce hit of Abbasi Reza from the left flank was padded off by Bangladesh goalie Ashim Gope, but unmarked Taheridad Navid pushed the rebound into the post (1-0).
After the resumption, Iran earned another three consecutive penalty corners, but again failed to convert any.
Bangladesh neutralised the margin in the 55th minute by their 7th penalty corner. Penalty corner specialist Mamunur Rahman Chayan hit the ball into the post, pushed by Puskor Khisha Mimo and stopped by Sarwar Hossain (1-1).
Puskor Khisha Mimo put Bangladesh ahead in the 57th minute as he placed the ball home with a soft push, off a Romman Sarker pass from left flank (2-1).
Sheikh M. Nannu sealed the fate of the match with a superb reverse hit in the 70th minute after he was fed by Puskor Khisha Mimo with a neat angular pass from the midfield (3-1).
Iranian goalie Chazanisharah was adjudged the man of the match.
Iran, which earned three points from three group matches, will play Qatar in the 5th-6th position deciding match on Saturday.
Earlier, in the day's first match in the afternoon, Singapore crushed Hong Kong 6-1 in a Group B match at the same venue.
Six players of Singapore scored one goal each, three in either half.
Singapore took the lead in the 8th minute with a field goal by Abdul Wahab M. Fauzi (1-0), In the 12th minute, Noor Shah Silas Abdul doubled the margin by another field goal (2-0).
Skipper Arif Ali scored the 3rd goal for Singapore in the 14th minute from a penalty corner (3-0).
Zul Kepli Nur Ashik scored the consolation goal for Hong Kong with a reverse hit in the 29th minute (3-1)
After the breather, Alias Muhammad Ashraf scored the 4th goal for Singapore in the 41st minute with a reverse push (4-1) and Yuhari Mohammed Sabri dragged a penalty corner to score the fifth goal for Singapore in the 44th minute (5-1).
In the 54th minute, Salim Muhammad Haseef netted the sixth for Singapore from another penalty corner (6-1)
Singapore completed their group engagements with six points from three matches while Hong Kong remained pointless.
