Bangladesh will go head-to-head against visiting Sri Lanka in the opener of the first round Men's one of the three zonal matches of the World Hockey League today (Friday) at Maulana Bhasani Hockey Stadium (MBHS) in the city, reports UNB.
The first match will begin at 3:30 pm (Bangladesh Time)
The Lankan team arrived in city Thursday at 11:30 am and is staying at Imperial Hotel while the other visiting team Hong Kong reached Dhaka a day before Wednesday at 1:30 pm and now staying at Fars Hotel at Bijoy Nagar in the city.
Both the visiting teams played their practice matches Thursday afternoon at the MBHS.
In the first round, each team will play two matches. The two visiting teams - Sri Lanka and Hong Kong - will play on September 6 while Bangladesh will take on Hong Kong in their second match on September 7.
From this zonal fight, two teams will qualify for the second round expected to be held in Singapore in January next where 12-19 teams will take part.
Among the three participating teams here, host Bangladesh holds world ranking 32, Hong Kong ranked 46 and Sri Lanka ranked 40.
Bangladesh is expected to do well in the Hockey World League before the ensuing Asiad XVII on September 19-October 4, in Incheon, South Korea.
