BKSP and Partex SC won their respective 6th round matches of the Metropolis Premier Division Cricket League that resumed Monday after a three-day recess for national mourning following the carnage at the BDR headquarters in Pilkhana, reports UNB.
BKSP earned their third victory defeating Cricket Coaching School (CCS) by two wickets at the Narayanganj Osmani Stadium (NOS) in Fatullah while Partex SC tasted their 2nd victory beating winless Young Pegasus Club by five wickets at the BSKP ground in Savar.
Sent in to bat first at NOS, CCS scored 203 runs for 9 wickets in stipulated 50 overs with opener Elias Sunny playing an anchor role contributing 72 runs off 92 balls that featured 12 boundaries.
Middle order Nazmul Hossain scored not out 37 off 68 balls with one boundary while one down Pakistani Shahbaz Butt added 29 runs off 35 balls with five fours.
Mominul Haque captured four wickets for 25 runs in 10 overs to be adjudged man of the match while Asif Ahmed grabbed three wickets for 35 runs, also in 10 overs.
In reply, BKSP reached their target scoring 207 runs for eight wickets in 49 overs with Soumya Sarker contributing team highest 56 runs off 80 balls that included five fours and a six.
Middle order Tanveer Haider (37), one down Asif Ahmed (26), opener Saikat Ali (18), Zaved Hossain (15), Imamul Mustakim (14) and Enamul
Haque (10) were the other BKSP batsmen who reached double figures.
Elias Sunny, who earlier hit a polished 72 runs, claimed two wickets for 27 runs while KM Shakil and AH Shanta also took two wickets each for 29 and 47 runs respectively.
At the BKSP in Savar, Young Pegasus Club scored 211 runs for seven wickets in 50 overs as they batted first after winning the toss.
After the dismissal of four top order batsmen-Arif Reza (0), Rahat Sadek (1), Faisal Javed (10) and Humayan Kabir (0) -- for just 33 runs in 9.4 overs, Jupiter Ghosh pairing with skipper Abul Bashar contributed 107 runs in the 5th wicket stand.
In reply, Partex SC easily reached their target of 212 runs in 47.4 overs for the loss of five wickets.
Partex SC made a good start scoring 71 runs in the opening stand between Shafiul Alam (38) and Mehrab Hossain Jr (27). Later, two half centuries by Tarique Ahmed and Pakistani Rashed Hanif guided the team near victory.
One down Tarique Ahmed hammered 59 runs off 68 balls with six fours while Rashed Hanif made not out 50 off 61 balls with five fours.
Faisal Javed and Zakaria Islam took two wickets each for 34 and 38 runs respectively.
Victoria SC will meet Gazi Tanks Cricketers at the Narayanganj Osmani Stadium in the lone 6th round match today (Tuesday).
