Twelve-team Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football, the country's most prestigious football competition, begins today (Thursday) at two venues near capital Dhaka, reports UNB.

The eleven- round first phase matches will be held from today (Thursday) to March 19/20 in two venues adjoining the capital-- Shaheed Ahsanullah Master Stadium in Tongi and Bir Shreshtha Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj.

Bangladesh Football Federation earlier decided to arrange the BPL matches in three venues including Bashundhara Sports Complex, but the venue was finally excluded as Bashundhara authority wants to make it home venue with Sheikh Russel KC.

In the opening match, defending champions Bashundhara Kings will play newcomers Swadhinata Krira Sangha at 3 pm at the Shaheed Ahsanullah Master Stadium in Tongi.

In the other opening day's fixture, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club will play Uttar Baridhara Club also at 3 pm at the Bir Shreshtha Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj.

On Friday, Dhaka Abahani Ltd will face Muktijoddha Sangsad KC at 3pm in Tongi while Saif Sporting Club will encounter Bangladesh Police FC at 3 pm in Munshiganj.

Earlier, the logo unveiling ceremony and captain's meet of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football was held on Sunday at a local hotel.
