Brothers advance to 3rd slot

Brothers Union Club advanced to the 3rd slot in the ongoing Citycell 2nd B League beating giant-killers Rahmatganj Muslim Friends Society by 2-1 goals at the floodlit Bangabandhu National Stadium in the city Saturday, reports UNB.
With the day's feat, the "all orange" Gopibagh outfit Brothers Union secured 16 points from nine matches to share the third slot with traditional sports powerhouse Dhaka Mohammedan SC.
Holders Dhaka Abahani Limited clearly dominated the league table collecting 22 points from 10 matches while Sheikh Russell KC followed them with only 17 points from nine outings.
After a barren first half in the day's match, national coloured medio Zahid Hossain scored both the goals for Brothers in the opening minutes of the 2nd half. On the other hand NCHE Francis netted the lone goal for old Dhaka outfit Rahmatganj just a minute before the final whistle.
Zahid Hossain put the Brothers ahead in the 59th minute by an angular ground shot from right wing making fool the Rahmatganj custodian Mohammad Ali (1-0). Zahid's shot kissed Rahmatganj net through first bar.
For Brothers, Zahid doubled the margin scoring his second goal from a penalty in the 63rd minute.
Match referee Abdul Hannan Miran awarded a penalty in favour of Brothers after awarding a danger zone handball to Rahmatganj defender Kabir Hossain.
Towards the end of the 90-minute play when Brothers almost heading for 2-0 win, Rahmatganj striker Francis reduced the margin in the 89th minute by a cool placing shot from about 35 yards beating the advancing Brothers custodian (2-1).
Earlier Brothers Union came close to score in the 7th minute when a good header of Topu narrowly went over the cross piece, off a Motiur Munna cross.
In the 17th minute, Brothers defender Arif guarded his castle brilliantly foiling an attempt of Francis from goal line, when his fellow goalkeeper was in much advance position.
In the 53-minute, Rahmatganj medio Hanif Pradhan made an unsuccessful bid. Later Idrice's back volleyball entered the box, but was cancelled due to off-side.
