Brothers beat holders Legends of Rupganj

Brothers Union beat defending champions and also the league leaders, Legends of Rupganj (formerly Gazi Tank Cricketers) by 5 wickets in a match of the Walton Dhaka Metropolis Premier Division Cricket League at BKSP-3 in Savar Thursday, reports UNB.

Despite the defeat, their first this season, Legends of Rupganj retained the top slot with 10 points from six matches.  In the day's match, sent in to bat first, Legends of Rupganj scored 192 for all in 49.4 overs, riding on 124 runs in 26.4 overs contributed by Mosharraf Hossain and Jahurul Islam in the second wicket stand.

Number three Mosharraf scored team highest 80 runs off 87 balls with 11 fours and two sixes before caught and bowled by Denly Joseph Liam leaving team total at 137 for 3 in 30.2 overs.

Opener Jahurul Islam scored 44 runs off 83 balls with two fours before stumped by Jabed Hossain off Nazmus Sadat.

Azhar Zaidi, Sharif Ullah and Nazmul Milon scored 12 runs each while there was no other double digit scorers for Legends of Rupganj.

Asif Hasan grabbed three wickets for 21 runs; Ahamed Sadiqur and Nazmus Sadat took two wickets each for 16 and 45 runs respectively while Shahajada Hossan, Denly Joseph Liam and Younus took one wicket apiece for 11, 23 and 50 runs respectively.

Chasing 193 runs, Brothers Union reached their target scoring 194 runs for 5 wickets in 47.2 overs with two half-centuries by skipper Nazim Uddin and Denly Joseph Liam.

In the third wicket stand, Nazim and Denly Joseph contributed 75 runs in 15.2 overs, before Nazim was caught and bowled by Mosharraf Hossain at 139 for 3 in 35.1 overs.

Nazim scored 51 runs off 80 balls with four fours. Denly Joseph also scored 51 runs off 62 balls with six fours before caught by Azhar Zaidi off Sharif Ullah with scoreboard showing 163 for 4 in 40.5 overs.

Number two Yasir Ali Chowdhury scored 31 runs off 64 balls with two fours and a six while Nazmus Sadat (25), opener Avishek Mitra (16) and Ruman Ahmed (not out 12) were the other double digit scorers for Brothers Union.

Mosharraf Hossain grabbed two wickets for 27 runs while Shahid, Nayeem Islam (jnr) and Sharif Ullah took one wicket each for 25, 33 and 38 runs respectively.

In the day's other fixtures, Prime Bank Cricket Club beat Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club by 6 wickets at BKSP-4 in Savar while Kalabagan Cricket Academy won by 96 runs against Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club at Khan Saheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah.
