Brothers Union Club completed their first phase engagements of the Manyavar Bangladesh Premier Football League with winning note beating Chittagong Abahani Ltd by 2-0 goals at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in the city Thursday, reports UNB.
Haitian forward Augustine Walson scored both the goals for the Gopibagh outfit Brothers Union in the 2nd half, both from free kicks.
With the day's feat, Brothers Union Club shared the 2nd slot in the eleven-team league with Dhaka Mohammedan SC and Sheikh Russel KC securing 20 points each from 10 matches after league leader and holder Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club, which bagged 23 points from all 10 matches.
But in goal difference, Mohammedan SC were in the 2nd place 13 goals advantage, Brothers Union in the 3rd slot with nine goals advantage while Sheikh Russel KC were in the 4th position with six -goal advantage.
Chittagong Abahani Ltd were in the 10th slot with five from all the 10 first phase matches..
In the 33rd minute, a back heel of Augustine Walson was saved by Abahani defender Kaushik Barua from the goalline and in the 65th minute, Walson's long distant shot hit the side post.
However, Walson opened account for Brothers Union in the 69th minute by a curved free kick from the left flank (1-0).
In the 83rd minute, Walson sealed the fate of the match scoring his second from another free kick, almost from almost the same spot. His curling free kick entered the Abahani net stunning goalie Shohag Hossain (2-0).
