Bangladesh cricket did not have a good 2019, even managing to lose a Test at home to Afghanistan. A protracted player strike also took focus away from cricket as the Tigers struggled on and off the field. But they still have a quality core of players in the form of Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah and Tamim Iqbal.
The biggest challenge for them will be the ban on star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who has been punished for failing to report corrupt approaches. Shakib can only come back only on October 29, 2020. He is most likely to miss a majority or all of the T20 World Cup in Australia.
Below is the complete schedule of the Bangladesh cricket team for 2020, according to the Future Tours Programme.
Tour of Pakistan (January-February)
Bangladesh will begin the year with two-Test and three-T20I series against Pakistan in Pakistan.
Bangladesh are scheduled to tour Pakistan for a T20 and Test series. Even as the 20-overs games will take place at Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium on January 23, 25 and 27, there are clouds looming large over the Test matches. The Tests were earlier slated to take place in Rawalpindi and Karachi, but now the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is reluctant for the games in Pakistan.
Instead, the BCB wants the Tests to be played at a neutral venue. In the meantime, while the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is keeping their fingers crossed for the series to happen, the board has made it clear that playing Test cricket in some other nation isn't an option for them.
Home series against Zimbabwe (March)
In March, they were scheduled to play Zimbabwe in a series of a Test match and five T20's.
Tour of Ireland (May- June)
The Bangladesh cricket team is scheduled to tour Ireland in May and June 2020 to play three ODIs and four T20I matches. The two teams were also supposed to play a Test match but Ireland authorities cancelled it because of financial reasons. The first ODI will take place on May 14 while the next two games will be held on May 16 and 19. Cricket Ireland are also looking at the possibility of hosting the T20 matches in England.
Home series against Australia (June)
The challenges will only get greater with Test series against Australia at home. The Australian cricket team is scheduled to tour Bangladesh in June and July 2020 to play two Test matches.
Tour of Sri Lanka (July-August)
In July and August, they will tour Sri Lanka. The Sri Lanka series is of three Tests.
Home series against New Zealand (August-September)
In August and September, they will play against New Zealand at home. They will play two Test matches.
Asia Cup (September)
In September, Bangladesh will take part in the Asia Cup.
Tour of New Zealand (October)
After this tournament, they are enlisted to participate in a three-match T20 series against New Zealand at home.
ICC World T20 (October- November)
Bangladesh will start their T20 World Cup 2020 campaign on October 19 against Qualifier B at Blundstone Arena, Hobart, Australia. The remaining two matches will be held on October 21 and 23 respectively.
Home series against Sri Lanka (December)
Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will cross paths once again in 2020 but this time Bangladesh will play the host. Both the teams will collide with each other in 3 ODIs during the month of December.
