Bangladesh's Mustafizur Rahman opened wicket account in the 11th Indian Premier League (IPL) when his side Mumbai Indians conceded a one-wicket defeat to Chennai Super Kings in the eight-team tournament opener at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Saturday night, reports UNB.
Mustafiz got Ravindra Jadeja, caught by Suryakumar Yadav, by a whippy cutter in his last ball of the second over when scoreboard showing 75/5 in 12 overs for Chennai Super Kings. He conceded 39 runs in 3.5 overs for one wicket.
Chasing a target of 166 in the day's match, Chennai SK won scoring 169 for 9 in 19.5 overs spurred with a quick-firing half century of 68 off 30 balls, including three boundaries and seven sixes, hammered by man of the match Dwayne Bravo, a West Indian pace all-rounder.
Chennai SK needed seven runs in the innings' death over before Mustafiz came to deliver his 4th over and Kedar Jadhav (24* off 22b; 1x4'2x6) was in the batting end. Mustafiz gave no runs to K Jadhav in the first three balls but K Jadhav managed to hit a boundary and a over-boundary in the next two balls of the death over to win the match with one ball remaining.
Mayank Markande (3/23) and Hardik Pandya (3/24) equally shared six wickets while Jasprit Bumrah (1/37) and Mitchell McClenaghan (1/44) were other wicket takers for the losing side.
Sent in to bat first, defending champions Mumbai Indians finished the innings on 165 for 4 in 20 overs where Suryakumar Yadav (43 off 29b; 6x4; 1x6), Krunal Pandya (41* off 22b; 5x4; 2x6) and wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan (40 off 29b; 4x4; 1x6) were notable hitters for the side.
