Chinese Taipei taste first victory beating Qatar by 2-1

Chinese Taipei tasted the first victory in their 2nd Pool A match of the Islami Bank Asian Games Hockey Qualifiers beating Qatar by 2-1 goals in the day's second match at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium on Monday, reports UNB.
In their first matches, Chinese Taipei lost to Oman 1-0 while Qatar drew 1-1 with Sri Lanka on Saturday.
In the day's 2nd match, Chinese Taipei took lead in the 13th minute as their forward Liu Chin-Kun scored the first goal with a neat push beating Qatar defense and custodian Shahzad by his solo effort (1-0).
Taipei doubled their margin in the 32nd minute with a superb effort from Lin Tse-Yen who flicked a cracking hit of Lin Cheng-Yan at the roof of the Qatari post (2-0).
In the 38th minute, Stevenson Savio of Qatar reduced the margin with a field goal (2-1).
Liu Chin Kun of Chinese Taipei was adjudged the man of the match.


Singapore's dramatic win
Singapore earned a dramatic 3-2 win over Iran in the Islami Bank Asian Games Hockey Qualifiers at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium Sunday, reports UNB.
Iran took the lead in the 17th minute when forward Taheridad Navid forced his way through the Singapore defence and scored the first goal with an angular hit (1-0).
In the 22nd minute, Singapore earned a penalty stroke but Nur Ashik Ferdaus failed to convert it.
Iran doubled the lead in the 45 minute when forward Abbasi Reza was unmarked in the box and he unleashed a reverse hit to hit the board (2-0).
But Singapore never lost the spirit and continued to attack. In the 55th minute Salim Mohammed Haseef missed another penalty stroke. But in the very next minute Alias Muhammad Ashraf flicked a Nur Ashik Ferdaus hit into the Irani post (2-1).
In the 59th minute Saleem Muhammad Haseef equalised with a fierce reverse hit after from the edge of the box (2-2).
Singapore's fighting effort paid off in the last minute when Timothy Goh Kai Young's powerful hit crashed into the post after a penalty corner was initiated.
It would be mentionable that the stipulated time finished before the penalty corner was initiated.


Oman earn 2nd win beating S Lanka by 3-2
Favourite Oman earned second consecutive victory to dominate the Pool A of the Islami Bank Asian Games Hockey Qualifiers beating Sri Lanka by 3-2 goals at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium in the city Monday, reports UNB.
Oman made a good start beating Chinese Taipei 1-0 in their first match while Sri Lanka played 1-1 draw against Qatar in the tournament opener on Saturday.
In the remaining Pool A matches, Oman will face Qatar while Sri Lanka will meet Chinese Taipei on Wednesday (Mar 19) at the same venue.
In the day's match, Rajab Basim Khatar put Oman ahead in the 12th minute converting their second penalty corner, off Al Nofli Younis Ghabish Salmeen push, stopped by Khalfan Qasim Moosa (1-0).
Lahiru Gihan Weerasooriya levelled the margin for Sri Lanka in the 28th minute by an angular hit from right flank after beating onrushing Omani goalie Fahad Khamis Salmeen with brilliant stick work (1-1).
Oman again took lead in the 45th minute through their in-form forward Mahmood Ashoor Ramadhan who dragged a penalty corner into the left side of Sri Lankan goalie Darsana Ratnasiri (2-1).
The tall forward, Ramadhan repeated the act in the 50th minute with another efficient drag, off a penalty corner (3-1).
Lahiru Gihan Weersooriya scored his second goal for Sri Lanka in the 63rd minute as his timely deflection on a Tharanga Gunawardana hit entered the post (3-2).
