Bangladesh head coach Russell Domingo's future will be decided in January following the report of the fact-finding committee, said Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan on Saturday, reports Cricbuzz.
Domingo's days could be numbered despite his contract being officially extended by BCB in October in the wake of the debacle at T20 World Cup 2021. Bangladesh lost all five of their Super 12s encounters to embarrassingly crash out of the tournament.
The BCB has formed a fact-finding committee comprising BCB director Jalal Yunus and Enayet Hossain while also including team director - Khaled Mahmud - in the national dressing room to oversee things. Cricbuzz understands the South African is aware of the development but isn't willing to talk about it just yet.
"We are waiting for the fact-finding report and we are expecting to get it soon and then we will take a decision on Domingo. We feel that by January we will be able to take a call," Nazmul told reporters in Mirpur. "I am not surprised as I have been informed informally that there's nothing serious in the report. I knew this would be the case.
"We got a few important things (in the report) but It's nothing related to the coaching staff. What can you do if the players say there's nothing wrong with the coach? You can't do anything then. If the players do have any problem with the coach, they won't say it easily.
"In the midst of the World Cup, Domingo came up and said that he has an offer and he is willing to take it up unless we extend his contract. Then we extended it and till now it remains that way."
Nazmul hinted that the board wants to get to the bottom of the issue if all is indeed not well in the national dressing room. "I hear about the distance between coach and players but nobody tells me from his place.
"If you can't get to the bottom of it, the problem won't be solved. We have to know the problem first. If they say there's no problem in the investigation report, it is not just that. I know what's wrong. If there's anything wrong in the coaching staff, we will change it. What if they don't listen to the coach? It won't matter if we get another coach. So, the problem is complicated. We are trying to go as deep as possible, and take a just decision."
Nazmul also backed the decision of preparing low and slow wickets against New Zealand and Australia despite being criticized for taking this route as he feels it served their purpose - ensuring a spot in the next T20 World Cup in Australia next year without having to through the qualification round due to better rankings now as a result of the series wins.
