Dhaka Abahani clinch 2nd consecutive trophy

Dhaka Abahani Ltd maintained their supremacy by clinching their 2nd consecutive trophy of the season, the Bashundhara Group Federation Cup Football title, beating Rahmatganj MFS by 2-1 goals in the final at the Bir Shreshta Shaheed Sepoy Mohammad Mostafa Kamal Stadium in Kamalapur in the city on Sunday, reports UNB.
Abahani will now represent Bangladesh in the next AFC Cup.
Daniel Colindres put Abahani ahead in the stoppage time of the first half (45+1) minute (1-0).
Rakib Hossain widened the Abahani margin in the 64th minute by a placing shot far corner of the net (2-0).
Ghana forward Philip Tetteh pulled the Rahmatganj margin one back scoring a brilliant goal in the 70th minute from a difficult angle of right flank beating Abahani defender and custodian (2-1).
With the day's feat, Dhaka Abahani not only rewrote their own record by winning the Federation Cup Football crown for the 12th time, but also clinched the season's 2nd successive major trophy within one month after winning the Independence Cup title in December last.
This was the 2nd consecutive victory for the popular sky-blue Dhanmondi outfit Abahani against Rahmatganj MFS this season, after beating them by 3-1 goals in the Independence Cup Football.
After the final, the long cherished dream of winning a major soccer trophy for the 89 years old Rahmatganj MFS was miserably shattered again after 2020.
World Cup playing Costa Rica booter of Abahani Ltd Daniel Colindres was adjudged player of the tournament and the player of the final for his outstanding performance.
Brazilian footballer Dorielton Gomes of Dhaka Abahani and Philip Tetteh of Rahmatganj MFS were jointly named as the highest scorers of the tournament.
