Dhaka Abahani retained the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) football title with a 2-0 goal victory against Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club in the 21st round match of the country's 10th edition prestigious league at Bangabandhu National Stadium in the city on Friday, reports UNB.
Abahani clinched the title for the 6th time since 2007, with one match to spare of the double league system meet.
Defender Nasir Uddin Chowdhury put Dhaka Abahani ahead in the 23rd minute by a header from goal mouth melee connecting midfielder of Sohel Rana's right footed cross from the right side of the box, 1-0.
Nigerian forward Sunday Chizoba Nwadialu doubled the winning margin with a marvelous goal in the stopgap time after 90 minutes. Midfielder Sohel Rana gave a short pass from the left side to Sunday who carried the ball inside the box deceiving four defenders of Sheikh Jamal before taking the right footed shot, 2-0.
Sheikh Jamal spoiled an opportunity to level the margin in the 51st minute as Gambian forward Solomon King Kanform's header attempt from goal mouth was denied by goalie Shahidul Alam, off a corner pass of midfielder Zahed Parvez Chowdhury form right side.
Abahani could have doubled the lead, if their Nigerian forward Sunday Chizoba Nwadialu would not misfire in the 58th minute. Forward Nabib Newaz Ziban delivered a cross to Sunday who carried the ball into the box from the midfield area and deceived three defenders before taking the left-footer shot.
Receiving a pass from midfield, Abahani forward Saad Uddin carried the ball into the box, but opponent side defender Khan Md Tara cleared the ball from the six-yard box before Saad took the final attempt for the cost of a corner in the 30th minute.
