England will have a fourth successive series win over West Indies in their sights when the two sides meet in the third Test at Old Trafford today (Thursday), reports BBC.
Michael Vaughan's side lead 1-0 with two matches to play and have the added benefit of a settled side.
West Indies, by contrast, lost skipper Ramnaresh Sarwan because of injury.
And they will not finalise their team until Chris Gayle's fitness to bowl following a side strain has been fully assessed by the team physio.
Coach David Moore believes the Test pitch will take spin at some stage and wants a slow bowling option in the team.
"We want him to be able to bowl in the nets for us if he is going to do it in the match. If he can't bowl, then we will have to make adjustments," he said.
If Gayle is only able to play as a batsman, the chances are that spin bowling duties will fall to Marlon Samuels, even though he only arrived a few days ago as Sarwan's replacement.
The tourists, who will be led by batsman Daren Ganga and have Shiv Chanderpaul back in the middle order, are also contemplating adding extra firepower to their seam attack by including Fidel Edwards.
"There is stiff competition where the team selection is concerned. If Fidel gets an opportunity to play his first Test on tour I think it would be very interesting. He wants to get back his spot on the team and he has a point to prove," said all-rounder Dwayne Bravo.
The only cloud on England's horizon has been controversy generated by a newspaper article in which skipper Vaughan criticised all-rounder Andrew Flintoff's behaviour at the World Cup.
But after claiming the matter had been blown out of proportion, Vaughan chose to focus on the need for the team to carry on where they left off in the second Test at Headingley.
England's backroom team has been bolstered by the arrival of former South Africa Test star Allan Donald as a bowling consultant and it will be interesting to see whether he has been able to help Steve Harmison and Liam Plunkett achieve greater consistency.
