Former Bangladesh national football team captain Aminul Haque has been appointed State Minister for Youth and Sports in the newly formed government led by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), reports BSS.
He received the portfolio as a technocrat.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest goalkeepers in the history of Bangladesh football, Aminul stepped down from international duty in 2011 after serving as the long-time captain of the national team, which he had represented since 1998.
He retired from professional football following the 2013-14 season, bringing to an end a 17-year playing career that included major injuries and five surgeries.
A commanding presence between the posts, Aminul was an inspirational figure during a transformative period for Bangladesh football. After hanging up his boots, Aminul entered politics in 2014,
marking the beginning of a new chapter that has now led him to a ministerial role.
