MUMBAI, July 3 (AFP): Former India batsman Dilip Sardesai, once hailed as India's best batsman against spin bowling, has died from multiple organ failure, cricket officials said Tuesday.
Sardesai, 67, was admitted late last month to a Mumbai hospital with a chest infection but his condition worsened at the weekend and he died Monday night.
"He was re-admitted to the intensive care unit... after developing complications and the end came Monday evening," said Chief Administrative Officer of the Indian Cricket Board Ratnakar Shetty.
Making his debut against England in 1961, Sardesai played 30 Tests in a career spanning 11 years. He scored 2,001 runs which included five hundreds and nine half-centuries at an average of just under 40.
