Fide Master Fahad Rahman of Pirojpur became unbeaten champion in the Azimuddin Bhuiyan Trust 33rd National Sub-Junior (Under-16) Chess Championship that concluded at the Chess Federation hall-room of National Sports Council in the city Sunday, reports UNB.
Fahad clinched the title securing 6.5 points from the seven-round meet, played Swiss League system. This was the 2nd national sub-junior title for Fahad after his maiden title in 2011.
Subrata Biswas of Mymensingh finished runner-up collecting 5.5 points.
In the girls group, Tanzina Akter Tani of Dhaka Metropolis emerged champion collecting 5.5 points while Jannatul Ferdous of Ideal Primary School became runner-up with 5 points.
The other positions in boys group: 3rd-Akib Jawad of Chittagong (5.5); 4th-Rafshan Bin Omar (Subin) of Jhalokathi (5), 5th-Anata Chowdhury (5), 6th-Nur Newaz Oyon of Natore (5), 7th-Mir Ahanab Kabya of Chittagong (5), 8th-Tahsin Mahmud of Chittagong (5), 9th-Kanchan Gharami of Rajshahi (4.5), and 10th-Abdullah Al Sharhan Saikat of Chittagong (4.5).
Other positions in girls group: 3rd - Fatema-tuz-Zohora Sraboni of Narayanganj (5), 4th-Nushrat Jahan Nafisa of Narayanganj (4), and 5th-Fardina Hossain Arena (3).
Three Braille chess players from Chittagong got special prizes. They are: Surat Alam, Faisal Ibrahim and Al-Amin.
The prize distribution ceremony of the meet was held Sunday afternoon at the same venue.
Assistant Professor of Economics Department of the Dhaka University Kamrun Nahar Taslim distributed prizes among the winners as the chief guest.
The trustee of Azimuddin Bhuiya Trust, M Hanif Bhuiya, was present as the special guest. Sixty players representing Dhaka Metropolis and 15 districts participated in the meet.
