BERLIN, Mar 21 (AFP): Germany will play Argentina in a friendly match in Duesseldorf on September 3 as a warm-up for Euro 2016 qualifiers, the German football federation announced Friday.
"During qualifications, the desire is to play big footballing nations. It's the wish of the coach and it's attractive for the fans," said federation secretary general Helmut Sandrock.
Germany have lost their last two friendlies against Argentina, going down 3-1 in August 2012 and 1-0 in March 2010, but posted an impressive 4-0 victory when it mattered most, in the 2010 World Cup quarter-finals.
Germany are in Group D for Euro 2016, and kick off their campaign at home to Scotland on September 7.
Joachim Loew's team are then away to Poland on October 11, before hosting Ireland three days later in Gelsenkirchen, with a further match against minnows Gibraltar scheduled for November 14 in Bremen.
Still to be determined are the venues for home matches against Poland and Georgia in September and October 2015.
