GM Zia emerges champion in Berger Chess

Grand Master Ziaur Rahman of Biman despite drawing his last round match emerge champion in the Berger Six Seasons Grandmasters Chess Tournament on the concluding day at the Tulip Lounge at Uttara Club in the city Sunday Sunday, reports BSS.
This year's competition was sponsored by Berger Paints Bangladesh Limited in collaboration with Bangladesh Olympic Association and Bangladesh Chess Federation.
Zia accumulated 6 points out of nine round matches games on the way to the top of the point table.
Grand Master Niaz Murshed of Biman close followed his team mate to finish at the second spot with 5.5 points.
Three players earned 5 points each and their position was determined by breaking system. The third positions was taken by IM Sahaj Grover of India, FM Minhazuddin Ahmed Sagar of Destiny 2000 Limited bagged the fourth position and the fifth position was captured by FM Abu Sufian Shakil of Biman.
GM Vakhidov Tair of Uzbekistan had to remain satisfied with 6th position with points-4.5.
FM Sayatan Das of India finished at 7th position with-Bitan Banerjee of India occuping at 8th position,
Yee Soon Wei of Brunei Darussalam, and FM Mehdi Hasan Parag of Destiny 2000 finished at 9th and 10th position.
