Gono Bishwabidyalay (university) clinched their maiden title in the United Group Faraaz Inter-University Gold Cup Football Tournament beating Southeast University (SEU) by 4-2 goals in tie breaker in the final at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Monday, reports UNB.
The final match between the two teams was locked in a goalless draw in the stipulated period.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russel was the chief guest in the day's final and later distributed prizes among the winners.
Advocate Saifuzzaman Shikhor, MP, and Youth and Sports Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Harun-ur-Rashid were present in the final as special guests.
Champions Gono Bishwabidyalay received Tk 0.3 million as prize money while runners-up Southeast University got Tk 0.2 million.
Besides, Russel Munshi (Gono Bishwabidyalay) was adjudged the best player of the tournament, Bibek Mondal (Gono Bishwabidyalay) named as the man of the final, Shamim Hossain (Gono Bishwabidyalay) was adjudged the best goalkeeper and Mong Marma (Fareast University) named as highest scorer of the tournament.
Runners-up Fareast International University was adjudged the most disciplined team of the tournament to receive fair play award.
Earlier, Southeast University reached the final crushing Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTEX) by 4-1 goals in the first semifinal while Gono Bishwabidyalay reached the final eliminating International University of Business, Agriculture & Technology (IUBAT) by 3-0 goals in the 2nd semifinal.
