FE Report
A 20-member team for the Grameenphone-BCB National Cricket Academy has been announced at a press conference at a city hotel Saturday.
BCB Selection Committee Chairman Faruque Ahmed announced the names of the 20 members and explained the selection process. BCB Commercial Committee Chairman Aziz Al Kaiser and General Secretary Mahbubul Anam and GP Media Manager Moeen Tariq were also present on the occasion.
The team was selected by the National Selection Committee from players in the Corporate League, Dhaka Premier League, National League, National Under-19 Programme, Development Programmes and any such tournaments organised by the BCB or district-level cricket committees.
Although the players will be provided with scholarships to attend the Academy for a period of 12 months, the duration of scholarships may be extended upon recommendation by the National Selection Committee.
Players, 23-years and under, were eligible for a full scholarship from the Academy, based on their performance in the game. However, the age-limit could have been waived under exceptional circumstances at the discretion of BCB and upon recommendation by the National Selection Committee.
The inaugural year of the Grameenphone-BCB National Cricket Academy was a very successful year. Last year 26 talented players were provided scholarships to attend the Academy. Of them, Tamim Iqbal, Mehrab Hossain Jnr, Sakib-Al-Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Forhad Reza and Mahmudullah Riyadh have been placed in the National Team.
This year's team will pass the year with a full plate, participating in the Australian Institute Challenge and Crocodile Cup in Darwin from late August to early September followed by a tour to South Africa to compete in both four-day and one-day competitions. A tri-series against Sri Lanka and Pakistan National Cricket academies will culminate the programme.
