GP named title sponsors

The country's leading mobile phone operator Grameenphone(GP) has been named the title sponsors of the upcoming Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe tours to Bangladesh, reports UNB.
Grameenphone Limited provided Tk 13 million (1.3 crore) to earn the right to be the title sponsors of two Tests, seven ODIs and a tri-nation series involving Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.
The sponsorship also covers prize money, rights to branding the two stadiums, as well as the team buses.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) made the announcement Wednesday at a press conference at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium at Mirpur in the city.
Grameenphone CEO Oddvar Hesjedal, Director (Marketing) Rubaba Dowla and BCB's Senior Vice President Mahbub Anam, among others, were present at the press conference.
The Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe tour to Bangladesh will have a two-match Grameenphone Test series between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka; the Grameenphone tri-nation cup involving Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe; and the Grameenphone ODI series between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe.
In all, seven One-Day International (ODI) matches will be held apart from the two match Test series in December 2008 and January 2009.
Grameenphone, a patron of sports since its inception, has been the official sponsors for the National Cricket Team since 2003.
The company is also the official sponsors for the GP-BCB National Cricket Academy at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium since 2007. They also sponsored four cricket series in Bangladesh against England, Sri Lanka, Australia and India.
