The 23rd National Karate Championship began Saturday at the Shaheed Suhrawardy National Indoor Stadium at Mirpur with Hasan Khan and Unai Chak winning the gold medals on the opening day, reports UNB.
Men's Singles Kata, Hasan Khan of Bangladesh Ansar won the gold medal and Mir Iftekhar Hossain of Dhaka DSA earned the silver while Anwar Hossain of Chittagong Division and Sarwar Hossain of Army took the bronze medals.
Women's Singles Kata, Unai Chak of Bangladesh Army clinched the gold medal and Munni Khanam of Bangladesh Ansar won the silver while Devariti Das of Chittagong Division and Sumitra Murmu of Narayanganj bagged the bronze medals. Women's Team Kata, Bangladesh Army clinched the gold medal and Narayanganj DSA bagged the silver while Bangladesh Ansar and Dhaka Division took the bronze medals jointly.
Some 400 male and female karate players from different services teams, divisions and district sports associations are taking part in 21 events of Kata and Kumi.
Secretary of National Sports Council Shib Nath Roy inaugurated the two-day meet this morning, organised by Bangladesh Karate Federation.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Biren Sikder, MP, will be the chief guest on the closing ceremony on Sunday and distribute prizes.
