Tim Henman is expected to announce his retirement at a news conference in New York at 1600 BST Thursday, reports BBC.
The 32-year-old Briton is in the USA ahead of next week's US Open, which is set to be his final Grand Slam event.
His final competitive outing is likely to be Britain's Davis Cup tie against Croatia at Wimbledon next month.
Henman, whose wife Lucy is expecting their third child, has won three tour matches this season and has been struggling with a back injury.
Speaking earlier in the week, Henman admitted: "I'm enjoying playing but my body has struggled to cope with what I've been asking it to do."
The British number two and former world number four, who lives in Oxfordshire, is currently preparing for the final Grand Slam of the year at Flushing Meadows, where he faces Dmitry Tursunov in round one.
BBC tennis correspondent Jonathan Overend said: "His ongoing back complaint has hastened this decision - not unexpected, it has to be said."
