A three-day HSBC-Mayor's Cup School Badminton-2023 Tournament began at Banani Kamal Ataturk Playground in the city on Thursday, says a press release.
The finale of the tournament will take place at the same venue today (Saturday).
The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited (HSBC) in association with Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Bangladesh Badminton Federation has organised the tournament.
A total of 19 schools from Dhaka city took part in the tournament. Students of grade nine to 12 are registered for the competition.
DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam said, "Badminton or sports in general, is a vital element to ensuring both physical and mental development of individuals. Engagement in sports helps our youth force to grow up as responsible adults and contribute to a healthy society".
He further said, "DNCC is proud to be a partner of this tournament".
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of HSBC Bank, Bangladesh, Md Mahbub-Ur Rahman said, "At HSBC, we believe that sports are an important tool for building community and promoting health and wellness."
He also said, "We are proud to support the HSBC-Mayor's Cup School Badminton Tournament, which encourages our future generation to get involved in sports and stay active."
