Iftikhar, Munni clinch gold

Mir Mohammad Ibn Iftikhar Hossain and Munni Khanam of Bangladesh Ansar clinched gold medals in the men's and women's singles Kata event of the day-long 3rd Japan Cup Karate Competition at the NSC Gymnasium in the city Friday, reports UNB.
Joynal Abedin of Chittagong DSA received silver medal in the men's singles Kata while Anwar (Chittagong Division) and Nasir Uddin Tareq (Coxs Bazar) jointly bagged the bronze medal.
In the women's singles Kata event, Shamima Akhter (VDP) got the silver medal while Nasima Akhter (Chittagong DSA) and Rehena Akhter Munni (Gazipur DSA) jointly took the bronze.
In the -50 Kg men's event, Shamim Osman of Bangladesh Ansar grabbed the gold medal while Shamima Sultana (Jhalakathi) got the gold in the women's -48 Kg event.
After the day's competition, Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Masayuki Inoue distributed prizes among the winners as the chief guest.
Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) director and COO M Wali Ullah and JICA Resident Representative Nobuko Suzuki Kayashima were present as the special guests.
Bangladesh Karate Federation president and Home Secretary Mohammad Abdul Karim presided over the function.
A total of 180 competitors representing 29 associations took part in 11 weight categories of the meet.
