India get off to a good start

TRENT BRIDGE: English fast bowler Ryan Sidebottom bowls to Indian batsman Wasim Jaffer on the second day of the second Test here Saturday.
India took all the points in the morning session of the second day at Trent Bridge Saturday, reports Cricinfo.
The Indian bowlers wrapped up England's innings for 198, the batsmen built on that advantage, reaching 40 without loss by lunch, reducing the deficit to 158.
Anil Kumble and Zaheer Khan combined to take England's last three wickets for 29 runs, before Wasim Jaffer and Dinesh Karthik saw off 16 overs from England's three fast bowlers.
Unlike at Lord's, the Indians have got the best of the conditions in this Test so far, and they have made good use of it.
Jaffer and Karthik came out to bat with the pitch dry and the sun shining, and though James Anderson and Ryan Sidebottom got plenty of swing - and beat the bat enough to keep the slip cordon interested - the breakthrough remained elusive.
Anderson, especially, had both batsmen in plenty of bother when he got his out-swinger to pitch around middle-and-off, but too often he drifted wide of the stumps and allowed the batsmen to comfortably leave the deliveries.
Jaffer did plenty of that, facing 44 deliveries for 15, but Karthik was more adventurous at the start, driving expansively and cutting Sidebottom to race to a run-a-ball 14, before slowing down.
Sidebottom's ability to swing it back into the right-hander occasionally had him in some difficulty, but Karthik mostly played with bat in front of pad, careful not to repeat the mistake that led to his downfall in the first innings at Lord's.
Jaffer started more circumspectly, but grew in confidence and clipped Anderson twice off his legs - for four and two - in the last over before lunch. With the new-ball attack not making inroads, Vaughan turned to Chris Tremlett, but he responded with a couple of wayward overs, spraying it wide outside off or down the leg side.
The performance of the Indian opening batsmen complemented perfectly the work of Zaheer and Kumble earlier in the morning.
Tremlett and Sidebottom threatened to resist with a 29-run stand for the eighth wicket with Tremlett, especially, benefiting from huge chunks of good fortune against Kumble. His luck finally ran out, though, as Kumble slid one straight through the enormous gap between bat and pad.
Zaheer, India's best bowler on view, struck soon after. Like on the opening day, he got plenty of swing, and Monty Panesar was only good enough to edge to VVS Laxman at second slip.
Kumble wrapped it up with his third wicket of the innings - another quick delivery went crashing into off stump much before Anderson could get his bat down.
Through all the damage at the other end, Sidebottom batted on for 48 deliveries, showing decent defensive technique and spanking it when the bowlers offered width. The performance might tempt Michael Vaughan to move him up one slot in England's second innings, but before that he'll want Sidebottom and the rest of the England attack to replicate the Indian bowling performance. On the evidence so far, England have plenty of work to do through the rest of the day.
