India, Nepal arrive in city

Defending champions India arrived in Dhaka Thursday to participate in the six-nation SAFF U-16 Championship- 2015, beginning on Sunday (Aug 9) at the Sylhet Stadium in Sylhet, reports UNB.

Indian U-16 Team landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 12:40 hours and reached Sylhet in the afternoon by a connecting flight.

The Nepalese U-16 Team also reached the Dhaka airport Thursday afternoon and left the capital for Sylhet by another flight.

Sri Lanka U-16 team will arrive in the capital today (Friday) at 11:15am and fly for Sylhet in the afternoon.

Afghanistan U-16 team will also arrive in the capital on the same day (Friday) at 21:00. The Maldives U-16 team is expected to arrive in Dhaka Saturday.

Earlier, Bangladesh was put in strong Group A along with India and Sri Lanka while Group B team comprises of Nepal, the Maldives and Afghanistan.

Hosts Bangladesh will start their South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Under-16 Championship campaign taking on Sri Lanka on August 11 at 5pm at the Sylhet Stadium in Sylhet. The six-nation SAFF Youth Championship will begin on August 9 at the Sylhet Stadium with holders India taking on Sri Lanka in the opening match at 5:00 pm. In the remaining group match, Bangladesh will play defending champions India on August 13 also at 5:00 pm at the same venue.

On completion of the group matches, top two teams of each group will play in the semifinal on August 16 while the final match will be held on August 18.
