India penalised after defeat to Bangladesh

After their heartbreaking one-wicket defeat to Bangladesh in the first ODI, India had to swallow another tough pill.
They were fined 80 per cent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate in the match on Sunday, reports BSS.
Ranjan Madugalle of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction after India were ruled to be four overs short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration.
In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined 20 per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.
India captain Rohit Sharma pleaded guilty and accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing.
India lost the game unbelievably despite leaving Bangladesh at 136-9 in the chase of 187-target.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz helped Bangladesh snatch an unlikely victory, hitting 38 not out from 39 balls. He and No. 11 batter Mustafizur Rahman shared 51-run for the 10th wicket partnership as India closed in on a victory.
The second match of three-match series is on Wednesday at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
