The 12-team Popular Life Insurance 17th Inter-district Women's Volleyball Tournament begins today (Monday) at Shaheed Nur Hossain National Volleyball Stadium at Purana Paltan in the city with four matches billed for the opening day, reports UNB.
On the opening day, Rajshahi will take on Jhenaidah at 10:00am while Khulna will play Gazipur at 11:00am, Rajbari will face Netrakona at 3:00pm and holders Pabna will encounter Chattogram at 4:30pm.
Inspector General of Police Dr Mohammad Javed Patwary will inaugurate the five-day meet in the afternoon where president of Bangladesh Volleyball Federation Mohammad Atiqul Islam will be the special guest.
Managing Director of Popular Life Insurance Company Limited BM Yousuf Ali will be the chief guest at the closing ceremony on July 06.
General Secretary of Bangladesh Volleyball Federation Ashiqur Rahman Miku disclosed the details of the meet at a press conference at the Dutch-Bangla Auditorium of Bangladesh Olympic Association on Sunday.
Chairman of the Women's Volleyball Committee Syeda Jinnat Ara and Executive Director of the meet's sponsor M Alamgir Firoz also spoke on the occasion.
Twelve district teams, split into four groups, will compete in the first phase from July 2-3. Later, top two teams from each of the group will play quarterfinals.
