Jayawardene boosts solid Sri Lanka

Mahela Jayawardene anchored Sri Lanka in the first one-day international at Dambulla as he top scored with 66 in his team's useful 269 for 7, reports Cricinfo.
On a sluggish surface it was hard work for the batsmen and the innings never quite reached top gear once Sanath Jayasuriya went for a 35-ball 41, although Sri Lanka's top five all made valuable contributions.
England's bowlers plugged away and Paul Collingwood realised taking pace off the ball would make scoring tougher.
As early as the first over from James Anderson it was clear there wouldn't be much joy for the quick bowlers.
The ball came slowly off the surface and Phil Mustard, on debut, was taking them around ankle height.
However, once Jayasuriya and Upul Tharanga had assessed conditions they had the confidence to hit through the line when the bowlers offered any hint of width. Stuart Broad, whose last six deliveries in an international were dispatched for six by Yuvraj Singh in Durban, was welcomed into the attack by an advancing Jayasuriya, but Broad managed to retain his composure.
Sri Lanka targeted the second Powerplay, Anderson being taken for 16 including the first six of the innings over long-on.
