Australian cricket coach John Harmer Friday made his presentation before the BCB interview board as a candidate for Bangladesh cricket coach at the Board's Navana Tower Office in Gulshan, reports UNB.
The 65-year-old Harmer, who coached the Australian women's team before working with the England women's team between 2001 and 2003, arrived in city Thursday as the first candidate to submit his presentation before the Board.
Harmer submitted his five-hour presentation in front of the five-member selection panel.
The panel members are former national skippers ASM Roquibul Hassan and Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu, national coach Jalal Ahmed Chowdhury, former national cricketer Ishtiaque Ahmed and ad-hoc committee member MA Latif Khan.
The former coach of the England Women's team will also conduct a practice session Saturday morning at the indoor facility of the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium (SBNS) with the participation of the available contracted players.
Talking to the media after making his presentation, Harmer said it was a very good presentation with a lot of discussions with the panel members.
Asked if he was confident to get the job of the national team coach, he replied in the affirmative, saying that he was confident to do the job. "It would be wonderful if I get the job."
Replying to a query what would be his target if he gets the job, Harmer said: "My aim will be to make the players a little bit better from what they are at the moment."
He told another questioner: "The motivation behind appearing for this job is the pride of coaching an international side."
Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu, one of the panel members, informed that Harmer submitted his presentation, mostly his method of training, where he wanted to take Bangladesh cricket.
"We are now considering Harmer only as the head coach," he said, adding that Zimbabwean Dave Houghton would possibly be the next candidate to be interviewed in September.
Lipu, the Board's ad-hoc committee member and cricket operations committee chairman, said this is a process that has just begun. "We'll have to wait for a few more days as we will take the final decision after taking interviews of the other (two) candidates."
Another Australian Shaun Williams is currently working as the interim coach of the national team after the departure of coach Dav Whatmore following the home series against India in May.
