Junior athletics team leave for SL today

Championship begins on May 5

A 10-member Bangladesh Junior Athletics team will leave the city for Sri Lanka today (Thursday).

They will participate in the 3rd South Asian Junior (Under-18) Athletics Championship beginning in Colombo on May 5, reports UNB.

Bangladesh team consists of eight athletes including five women's, all from BKSP and two officials.

Hasan Miah will compete in 100 and 200 meter sprints, Rupa Khatun and Sonia in 100 meter sprint, Rupa Khatun in 200 meter sprint, Zahir Raihan and Sheuly Khatun in 400-meter run, Jannatul and Sonia in long jump and Zulfiqar Nayem in high jump.

Besides, Rupa, Jannatul, Sonia and Sheuly will compete in women's 4x100 meter relay race. Rupa, Jannatul, Sheuly and Ivy will compete in the women's 4X400 meter relay race. Bangladesh team earned one bronze medal each from the last two championship held in Colombo 2009 and Jharkhand (India) in 2013.

Members of Bangladesh team are: Zahir Raihan, Hasan Miah, Zulfiqar Nayem, Sonia Akter, Rupa Khatun, Sheuly Khatun, Ivi Akter and Jannatul.

Officials: Jannat Rehena Ferdousi (Manager) and Sherina Sultana (coach).

Bangladeshi athletes will compete in 100, 200, 400-meter run, high jump, long jump and relay race.
