Khaled Mahmud appointed consultant for age-group cricket in Bangladesh

Former Bangladesh captain turned Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director Khaled Mahmud has returned to the Bangladesh Cricket Board after being appointed consultant for age-group cricket, according to Cricbuzz.

Mahmud, who previously served the board in multiple capacities, including as chairman of the BCB's Game Development Committee, has been handed a two-year contract.

"I was discussing this (working with age-level cricket) with Tamim (BCB president) for quite a while now. I have been given a two-year deal," Mahmud said. "This is work I like doing. I have spent most of my coaching life in development and age-group cricket. When I was chairman of the BCB development committee, I tried my best to develop cricketers at that level," he said.

"We won the Youth World Cup as well. After leaving the board, I mostly worked as a coach with age-group cricketers. The new role is an ideal one for me. I hope I will be able to do something good in these two years," he said. Mahmud was at the helm of the BCB's Game Development Unit when Bangladesh won the Under-19 World Cup in South Africa in 2020. It is understood that the BCB hierarchy was keen to bring him back, taking into account his contribution to age-group cricket. Board officials believe Mahmud is well suited to mentor young cricketers at the grassroots level. The 54-year-old also served as team director of the Bangladesh national side at multiple ICC events during the tenure of the previous board.
