Khonjonpur emerge new champions in National School Hockey

Khonjonpur High School of Joypurhat emerged new champions in the First Security Islami Bank National School Hockey Tournament beating formidable Armanitola High School of Dhaka by 2-1 goals in a keenly contested final at the Moulana Bhasani National Stadium in the city on Monday, reports UNB.
Tournament's highest scorer Shihab put Armanitola High School ahead in the 9th minute (1-0) while Fahim Faisal restored the parity for Khonjonpur High School in the 35th minute (1-1). Manikuddin Fakir scored the match-winning goal for Khonjonpur High School in the 44th minute silencing strong Armanitola fans.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Biren Sikder was the chief guest in the day's final and later he distributed prizes.
President of Bangladesh Hockey Federation and Chief of Bangladesh Air Force Air Marshal Mohammad Enamul Bari, Chairman of the Tournament Committee and Chairman of ATN Bangla and ATN News Dr Mahfuzur Rahman, and Managing Director of the meet's sponsor First Security Islami Bank Syed Wasek M Ali were also present as special guests.
Champions Khonjonpur High School received prize money of Tk 0.3 million, runners-up Armanitola High School got Tk 0.2 million while the 3rd finisher JM Sen High of Chittagong received Tk 0.1 million.
Comilla Rafiquddin School received the fair play trophy.
Four outstanding players of the tournament-best goalkeeper Arman (Armanitola), best defender Ashraful (Khonjonpur), best midfielder Yemin (Khonjonpur) and best forward Shihab (Armanitola) - were awarded with trophies and cash prize money of Tk 20,000 each.
Besides, Tournament Committee Chairman Dr Mahfuzur Rahman announced prize money of Tk 0.1 million for the tournament's highest scorer, Shihab Hossain, (35 goals) of Armanitola High School and Tk 50,000 for tournament best goalkeeper Arman of the same school.
Prior to the final, students of Bangladesh Academy of Fine Arts performed an attractive display.
A total 120 school teams from all over the country, divided in eleven zones, took part in this year tournament, inaugurated by President of the International Hockey Federation in December last.
