Khulna bundled out for 274, Kayes hits century

Opener Imrul Kayes notched a spectacular century along with a nice fifty from middle order Shakib Al Hasan guided Khulna Division to score 274 for all in 82.1 overs in the 1st innings against Sylhet Division on the 2nd day of the 3rd round of Ispahani Mirzapore Tea 9th National Cricket League four-day match Saturday, reports UNB.
In response, Sylhet Division started their 1st innings to score 6 for none in 3 overs when the bails were drawn for the 2nd day at the Narayanganj Osmani Stadium. Both the openers, Golam Rahman and Golam Mabud, were batting on 3 runs respectively.
Sent in to bat first, Kayes and Nahidul Haque gave a decent start to Khulna Division as they put up 46 runs in the 1st wicket stand before Nahid departed for 16 in 16.1 overs.
Then skipper Habibul Bashar joined Kayes to deliver another 87 runs in the 2nd wicket to give their side a solid foundation before Bashar returned to the pavilion contributing 33 off 64 balls decorated with six fours.
Kayes was the 4th batsman to hit his maiden ton in the ongoing league to topscore with 127 off 208 balls including 16 fours and two sixes, while Shakib chipped in with 59 facing 66 balls fashioned with seven fours.
Left-arm spinner Enamul Huq Jr clubbed five wickets for 65 runs in 25.1 overs while Rashidur Rahman and Tapash Baishya took two wickets each.
Earlier Friday, there was no play on the 1st day due to wet outfield.
At the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Barisal Division put themselves in a commanding position against holders Dhaka Division taking an overall 58-run 1st innings lead on the 2nd day.
Replying to the 1st innings total of 157 posted by the hosts, the visitors scored 215 for 4 in 111 overs in the 1st innings at stumps on day two after resuming the day with overnight 27 for none in 17 overs.
Right-hand opener Hannan Sarker played a beautiful knock of 85 off 273 balls, featuring four fours, while another overnight Shahriar Nafees, also the team skipper made 33 off 111 balls including two boundaries.
Number three Imran Ahmed also came up with a brisk 35 off 104 balls, hitting two fours and two sixes, while number five Nasiruddin Faruq and Raisul Islam were batting on 27 and 14 runs respectively.
Dhaka Division captain Mohammad Ashraful claimed two wickets for 57 runs in 18 overs with his leg spin while spinner Mosharraf Hossain Rubel and pacer Mohammad Sharif shared the other two wickets.
In the day's another match between Rajshahi and Chittagong Division at the Chittagong Divisional Stadium, there was also no play on the 2nd day Saturday due to wet outfield.
Chose to bat first yesterday, Rajshahi Division were struggling in their first innings scoring 191 for 9 in 90 overs when the play was called off for the first day.
