League leader Khulna Division scored 296 for 8 in 75 overs in the first innings against Sylhet Division on the first day of the four-day 2nd phase match of the Walton 13th National Cricket League at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong Sunday, reports UNB. Favoured by coin in the day's 2nd round match, Khulna Division opened the innings first in a delayed match that started at 11 am due to fog and scored a moderate total featuring an unbeaten century by middle order batsman Mithun Chowdhury. Number five batsman Mithun Chowdhury hammered an unconquered 105 runs off 102 balls with four fours and six sixes while captain Tushar Imran contributed another useful 62 runs off 116 balls hitting eight fours and one six. Besides, lower order Dollar Mahmud (40), spinner Abdur Razzak (24), opener Nazmus Sadat (24) and one down Anamul Haque (22) were the other major contributors for Khulna. All rounder Alok Kapali, pacer Taposh Baishya and Nabil Samad took two wickets each conceding 45, 48 and 63 runs respectively. Sent into bat first, Dhaka Metropolis team were all out for 201 runs in 55.3 overs with top order batsman Shamsur Rahman contributing a half century scoring 53 runs off 69 balls featuring six boundaries and two over boundaries. One down Asif Ahmed made 48-ball 45 runs including 10 boundaries, Mehrab Hossain Jr scored 20-ball 18 runs with two fours and one six while skipper Arafat Salahuddin remained not out with 16 runs. Saqlain Sajib caused the major damage to Dhaka Metro innings grabbing five wickets for 59 runs, Muktar Ali claimed four wickets for 47 runs and Sanjamul Islam took the remaining wicket for 49 runs. In reply, Rajshahi Division scored 94 for 1 in 29 overs at stumps on the first day, Sunday.
