Khulna takes command over Dhaka

Khulna Division took command in the 1st round of a four-day match of the Ispahani Mirzapore Tea 9th National Cricket League against holders Dhaka Division as they took an overall 187-run lead on the 2nd day at the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in the city Saturday, reports UNB.
After bowling out Dhaka Division for 174 in 67.5 overs in their 1st innings, Khulna Division started their 2nd innings to score 58 for 2 in 26 overs when the bails were drawn for the 2nd day.
Number four Tushar Imran and skipper Habibul Bashar were batting with 29 and 22 runs respectively. Pacer duo Mohammad Sharif and Shahadat Hossain took the wickets of Imrul Kayes and Nazmus Sadat.
Earlier in the morning, the hosts resumed their 1st innings with overnight score of 17 for 2 in 6 overs and passed the 150-run mark with the help of a half-century from veteran Mohammad Rafique.
Number nine Rafique contributed innings highest 58 off 69 balls that featured five fours and three sixes. Mahmudullah Riyadh was not out 28 while skipper Mohammad Ashraful made 23.
National pacer Mashrafe Bin Mortaza scalped four wickets for 36 runs in 14 overs while left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak, who scored an unbeaten 78 in the first innings, claimed three wickets for 44 runs.
In another match at the Bogra Shahid Chandu Stadium, Barisal Division also set themselves in a commanding position against Chittagong Division as they were enjoying a 64-run lead on the 2nd day.
Replying to Chittagong Division's 1st innings total of 176, Barisal Division posted 274 for all in 91.4 overs in their first innings today after resuming the day with overnight 61 for 2 in 20.2 overs.
Skipper-cum-opener Shahriar Nafees led from the front contributing innings highest 79 off 134 balls, including nine fours and one six, while tail-ender Sajedul Islam also came up with the 2nd highest not out 64 off 80 balls that included 10 fours.
Right-arm pacer Tareq Aziz Khan grabbed five wickets for 80 runs in 22.1 overs while his pace partner Ashiqur Rahman took two wickets.
Trailing by 98 runs in the first innings, Chittagong Division started their 2nd innings to score 34 for none in 16 overs at stumps on day two. Openers Tamim Iqbal and Gazi Salahuddin were batting on 17 and 16 runs respectively.
In the day's other match at the Rajshahi Divisional Stadium, two fifties from opener Jahirul Islam and skipper Khaled Mashud Pilot enabled runners up Rajshahi Division to post 229 for 8 in 98 overs in their first innings after bundling out Sylhet Division for 141 in their 1st innings.
Jahirul scored innings highest 67 off 181 balls, including eight fours, while Pilot remained at the crease with 50 facing 137 balls that featured three boundaries. Delwar Hossain was the other unbeaten batsman with 16.
Left-arm spinner Enamul Huq Jr and pacer Tapash Baishya took two wickets each for 38 and 45 runs respectively.
