Kings reach semifinal in Independence Cup

Title aspirant Bashundhara Kings reached semifinal of the Bashundhara Group Independence Cup Football when they blanked Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited by 2-0 goals in the second quarterfinal match held on Saturday at Bir Shreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj, reports BSS.

Bashundhara will now play the second semifinal match against winners of the fourth quarterfinalist scheduled to be held on December 1 at Sheikh Fazlul Haque Mani Stadium in Gopalganj.

In the proceeding, forward Rakib Hossain and Brazilian forward Robson scored one goal each to secure victory for Bashundhara, who led the first half by 1-0 goal.

Rakib put Bashundhara Kings ahead in the 34th minute while after the breather Robson sealed the victory scoring the second goal for Bashundhara in the 84th minute of the match.

After the goal, it was quite impossible for Mohammedan to stage a fightback in the remaining proceeding of the match and eventually they had to leave the field with defeat.

Powerhouse Bashundhara Kings clearly dominated the entire proceeding and notched their deserving victory on the day while the traditional black and white Motijheel outfit Mohammedan were totally off-colored in the match.

Earlier, Bashundhara Kings made a winning start in the tournament beating Fakirerpool Young Men's Club by 14-0 goals in their opening group match, defeated AFC Uttara by 3-0 goals in their second group match and emerged group top with a 2-0 goal victory over Chittagong Abahani Limited in their third match of the tournament.

Mohammedan earlier made a winning start in the tournament as they blanked Bangladesh Navy Football Club by 2-0 goals in their opening group match, defeated Fortis Football Club by 3-1 goals in their second match of the group and finished group B runners-up after losing 0-3 goal to Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra in their third match of the group.
