Kings beat Abahani as Mohammedan win against Rahmatganj in semifinals

Bashundhara Kings stormed into the final of Independence Cup Football beating Abahani Limited, Dhaka by 4-0 goals in the second semifinal held at Bashundhara Kings arena on Friday.

Bashundhara Kings will now play the final match against Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited who confirmed their spot of final beating Ragmatganj Muslim and Friends Society by a solitary goal in the first semifinal held earlier on the day.

The final match will be held on December 18 (Monday) at Sheikh Fazlul Haque Mani Stadium in Gopalganj, reports BSS.

After the barren first half, Sohel Rana broke the deadlock scoring the first goal for Kings in the 48th minute with a left footer shot off pass from Michel from the top of the box giving no chance to Abahani custodian under the bar.

Brazilian midfielder Dorielton doubled the lead for Kings in the 53rd minute with a left footer tap from the handshake distance utilizing a cross from Rakib Hossain.

Brazilian midfielder Michel further widened the margin scoring the third goal for Kings in the 77th minute with a header from the close range after capitalising on a cross from Saad Uddin from the left flank.

Brazilian forward Robson made the score line 4-0 from penalty in the 89th minute. Referee awarded the spot kick in favor of Kings as Ibrahim fouled Robson in the danger zone. Robson made no mistake to convert the spot kick.

Bashundhara Kings custodian Mehedi Hasan Srabon, who foiled Abahani's number of scoring opportunities under the bar, was named the player of the match for his impressive performance in the match.

Abahani Limited, however, created number of scoring opportunities in the first half, but they could not convert any due to lack of proper finishing.

In another match, Mohammedan Sporting Club reached final of the Independence Cup football beating old Dhaka outfit Rahmatganj Muslim and Friends Society by 1-0 goal in the first semifinal held at Sheikh Fazlul Haque Many Stadium in Gopalganj on Friday.

The first half of the match saw attack and counter attack by both teams. After the barren first half, both the teams were desperate to break the deadlock in the second half.

Uzbek midfielder Muzaffar Muzaffarov finally broke the deadlock in the 72nd minute of the match. Just a few yards in front of the box, Rahmatganj's defender illegally blocked Mohammedan's forward and referee immediately ordered for a free-kick in favor of Mohammedan. Free-kick specialist Muzaffarov perfectly executed the goal giving no chance to Rahmatganj's defenders and finally the goalkeeper.

Taking the lead, the black and white Motijheel outfit continued their onslaught but their foreign recruit forward deprived from their second goal in the 80th minute. Rahmatganj were also desperate to fight back in the match but could not score any in the remaining proceeding and eventually they had to leave the field with empty hand.

Earlier, on way to the semifinal, Mohammedan Sporting Club edged past Chittagong Abahani Limited by a solitary goal.
